Remain In Him

Remain in Him

5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. -John 15:5-8

Devotional
I'm a start and stop kind of guy. I have a few dozen ideas and projects bouncing around in my head at any given time. Where there are some people that would pick one idea and run with it to completion, I like to work on all of them simultaneously, which means I have I often have to stop and start multiple times on any given project. Some people enjoy this kind of chaotic creativity, some people can't stand it (like my wife). She just doesn't understand why I wouldn't finish what I'm working on before moving on to another project or sitting down to take a break.

Bottom line; it's hard for me to remain in anything for too long.

This scripture challenges me because I wish it said "Hang out with me from time to time!" or "Fit me in between dinner and bed time." but no, it says "Remain in me."

A stop/start relationship with Jesus is an option, but it won't bear much fruit.

In all things, in every moment, remain in Jesus and you will bear good fruit.

When life is good, remain in him.
When life sucks, remain in him.
When you're smiling, remain in him.
When you're pissed off, remain in him.
When you're grieving, remain in him.
When you're celebrating, remain in him.
When your plans work out, remain in him.
When it all falls apart, remain in him.
When you're alone, remain in him.
When you're all together, remain in him.
When you're anxious, remain in him.
When you're at peace, remain in him.

Remain in him.
Remain in him.
Remain in him.
Remain in him.
Remain in him.
